PART 2 — THE GUNSHOT WOKE THE GIANT

The starter pistol fired.

BANG!

The elderly runner exploded out of the blocks.

The entire stadium gasped.

Her first steps were unbelievably fast.

Her arms drove forward.

Her legs snapped beneath her.

The two young sprinters launched beside her.

But the grandmother was already moving.

Within seconds, she had erased the distance between them.

The blonde runner glanced sideways.

His confident expression vanished.

She was beside him.

Then ahead of him.

The crowd erupted.

The elderly woman kept driving down lane one.

Her stride was compact.

Efficient.

Powerful.

Every step landed directly beneath her body.

She wasn't wasting a single movement.

The two young sprinters fought to keep pace.

Their arms pumped harder.

Their strides lengthened.

But the grandmother continued pulling away.

The stadium became deafening.

Thousands of spectators stood.

Phones rose into the air.

The blonde runner looked toward her again.

This time, there was no laughter.

Only disbelief.

The finish line was approaching.

The grandmother lowered her head slightly.

Her eyes remained locked forward.

She accelerated again.

The young sprinters couldn't respond.

She crossed the finish line first.

The arena exploded.

The grandmother slowed gradually beyond the line.

She took several controlled steps.

Then stopped.

For a moment, she simply stood there.

Breathing heavily.

But still upright.

The two young runners crossed behind her.

The blonde runner stared at the grandmother.

His mouth was open.

He looked toward his teammate.

Neither man said a word.

The race official lowered the starter pistol.

The crowd was still roaring.

But the grandmother wasn't celebrating.

She looked down at the track.

Then slowly looked back toward the stadium.

May you like

Something in her expression suggested that this race had never been about proving anything to the young men.

She had simply returned to the place where she belonged.
