PART 2 — THE MAN WHO WALKED INTO THE LOUNGE

The first black SUV rolled to a stop outside the upscale lounge.

Then another.

Then another.

The sound of heavy doors opening drew every eye toward the entrance.

The young man who had thrown the punch looked over his shoulder.

His confident expression slowly disappeared.

Several men in dark suits entered the lounge.

They didn't rush.

They didn't shout.

They simply walked forward with absolute purpose.

Behind them came the powerful businessman.

His tailored suit was immaculate.

His expression was completely controlled.

But his eyes were cold.

Every lieutenant followed several steps behind him.

The room became so quiet that the soft clinking of glasses suddenly sounded deafening.

The young man looked around.

"Who are these guys?"

Nobody answered.

The businessman continued walking.

His eyes moved across the room.

Then he saw his father.

The elderly veteran was still standing beside the bar.

Calm.

Upright.

One hand rested against the polished counter.

The businessman stopped.

For the first time since entering the lounge, something changed in his expression.

He walked directly toward the old man.

"Dad."

The veteran looked at him.

"I'm all right."

His son studied his father's face.

He noticed the faint mark left by the punch.

His jaw tightened.

"Who did this?"

The elderly man didn't point.

He simply looked toward the young man standing several feet away.

The businessman followed his father's gaze.

Their eyes met.

The young man immediately took a step backward.

His arrogance returned for only a second.

"Look, this is being blown way out of proportion."

The businessman said nothing.

The young man swallowed.

"I didn't know who he was."

The veteran finally spoke.

"You didn't need to know."

The young man stared at him.

The old man continued calmly.

"You should have known better than to put your hands on somebody who hadn't touched you."

The words landed harder than a threat.

The young man looked toward the bartender.

Then toward the other patrons.

Several people had witnessed everything.

One patron quietly nodded.

"He hit him first."

Another added:

"We all saw it."

The young man's face tightened.

He suddenly realized there were no witnesses on his side.

The businessman stepped closer.

His voice remained low.

"Did my father threaten you?"

The young man shook his head.

"No."

"Did he touch you?"

"No."

"Then why did you hit him?"

The young man opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

The businessman looked at him for several seconds.

Then he turned toward his father.

"Dad, do you want me to handle this?"

The veteran looked at his son.

For a moment, the room expected an order.

Instead, the old man slowly shook his head.

"No."

His son stared at him.

The veteran straightened his worn jacket.

"I didn't call you here to hurt him."

The young man's eyes widened.

The old veteran continued.

"I called because I wanted my son to see what happens when people forget that respect works both ways."

His son lowered his eyes for a moment.

Then nodded.

He understood.

The veteran looked back at the young man.

"Apologize."

The young man stood frozen.

The businessman didn't move.

The lieutenants remained silent.

The entire lounge waited.

Finally, the young man lowered his head.

"I'm sorry."

The veteran watched him.

"Look at me."

The young man slowly raised his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he repeated.

This time, there was no arrogance in his voice.

The veteran nodded once.

"Good."

The businessman stepped beside his father.

The young man looked at the group of men surrounding him.

Then at the elderly veteran.

He finally understood the truth.

The most intimidating person in the room wasn't the businessman.

It wasn't the men behind him.

It was the old man who had taken the punch without losing his composure.

The veteran picked up his phone.

Then looked at his son.

"You can go home."

His son hesitated.

"You sure?"

The old man gave him a faint smile.

"I've been handling problems longer than you've been alive."

A few patrons exchanged stunned looks.

His son almost smiled.

"All right, Dad."

The tension in the room began to loosen.

But the businessman wasn't finished with the young man.

He turned toward him one final time.

"Remember something."

The young man looked up.

"My father didn't need me to defend him."

The businessman paused.

"He called me because he wanted to make sure you had the opportunity to learn something."

The young man lowered his eyes.

May you like

The businessman turned away.

And the room finally began to breathe again.
