PART 2 — WHEN THE MUSIC FINALLY BEGAN

For one brief moment, the entire ballroom was silent.

Then the conductor brought his baton down.

The orchestra began to play.

A gentle classical melody filled the room.

Walter took Dorothy's hand.

And the couple began to dance.

At first, the audience seemed unsure of what they were seeing.

They had expected something slow and awkward.

They had expected the elderly couple to struggle.

Instead, Walter moved with surprising confidence.

Dorothy followed every step naturally.

Their movements were not rushed.

They were precise.

Graceful.

And completely synchronized.

Walter gently guided Dorothy across the polished floor as the orchestra continued playing.

Dorothy turned beneath his raised hand, her purple gown flowing around her.

A few spectators lowered their phones.

The laughter disappeared.

People began watching without saying a word.

Walter and Dorothy continued moving together as if the hundreds of people surrounding them didn't exist.

There was something different about the way they danced.

They weren't trying to prove that they were young.

They weren't trying to impress anyone.

They were simply dancing together.

The way they had clearly done countless times before.

The music grew stronger.

Walter guided Dorothy through another elegant turn.

Dorothy smiled.

Walter smiled back.

And suddenly, the ballroom erupted in applause.

The same people who had laughed only moments earlier were now cheering.

Phones were still recording—but this time, they weren't recording to make fun of the couple.

They were recording because they didn't want to miss what was happening.

The camera moved closer.

Walter and Dorothy continued their dance beneath the spotlight.

Every step carried the weight of seven decades together.

Every glance between them seemed to say the same thing:

They had not come there to prove their age.

They had come to keep a promise to each other.

The orchestra reached the emotional peak of the performance.

Walter held Dorothy's hand.

They moved together toward the center of the dance floor.

And for a moment, the entire ballroom seemed to disappear.

There was only the music.

May you like

Only the dance.

And two people who had spent seventy years choosing each other.
