The rhythmic gymnastics facility in Austin, Texas, was filled with bright lights, wall-to-wall mirrors, and the sound of competition music echoing across the polished floor.
A group of young female athletes stood near the edge of the mat in sparkling competition uniforms.
Then they noticed the older woman standing across the room.
Her name was Evelyn Brooks.
At 78 years old, Evelyn wore nothing more than a simple black training outfit.

No flashy uniform.
No team credentials around her neck.
She simply stood quietly, watching the athletes practice.
One of the younger gymnasts folded her arms and looked Evelyn up and down.

A few girls giggled.
