PART 2 — THE CALL THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Across the city, inside a modern high-rise office overlooking downtown San Diego, his son was in the middle of an important business meeting.
The room was quiet and professional.
A long glass table occupied the center.
Several executives sat around it, reviewing documents and discussing an upcoming project.
His son was sitting at the head of the table.
He was a successful businessman.
Years of hard work had built his career.
His schedule was usually packed from morning until night.
But there was one person whose call he would never ignore.
His father.
His phone vibrated against the table.
He glanced down.
The moment he saw his name, his expression changed.
He immediately reached for the phone.
The people around the table stopped talking.
They could tell something was wrong.

He answered.
On the other end, he heard his father's voice.
He didn't sound angry.
He didn't complain.
He didn't explain what had happened.
He simply told him:
"Son, come to me."
There was something in his voice that made him sit upright.
He knew his father.
He rarely asked anyone for help.
Especially him.
For years, he had insisted on handling things himself.
He had taught him that difficult circumstances were not an excuse to give up.
So when he called him like this, he knew it wasn't something small.
He pushed his chair back.
One of the executives asked if everything was okay.
He didn't answer immediately.
His eyes remained fixed on the phone.
Then he stood.
He grabbed his jacket.
He looked around the conference room.
The business meeting suddenly no longer mattered.
His father needed him.
He answered:
"Okay dad
, I'm coming."
Then he walked out.
The conference room doors closed behind him.
Back at the waterfront café, the elderly man was still sitting at the table.
He kept the phone against his ear.
The three young men were still standing nearby.
But their confidence had begun to disappear.
They had expected him to become angry.
They had expected an argument.
Instead, he remained completely calm.
Jake looked toward the street.
Then back at him.
His friends whispered to each other.
Nobody knew who was coming.
Nobody knew how far away he was.
And nobody knew why the man seemed so certain that everything would be okay.
Several minutes passed.
The man quietly waited.
He didn't threaten Jake.
He didn't demand an apology.
He didn't even look at him.
He simply sat there.
His phone remained in his hand.
The surrounding café gradually returned to its normal rhythm.
People continued walking along the waterfront.
Cars passed on the street.
Waiters carried food between tables.
But around that small café table, the atmosphere was completely different.
Jake's friends were no longer laughing.
One of them looked uncomfortable.
The other kept watching the road.
Jake tried to maintain his confident expression.
But even he seemed uncertain now.
Then the sound of a vehicle approaching caught everyone's attention.
A dark SUV slowed near the curb.
The elderly man lifted his eyes.
The vehicle stopped.
The rear door opened.
A man stepped out.
He wore a dark business suit.
His posture was controlled.
His face was serious.
He looked toward the café.
Then he saw his father.
He immediately walked toward him.
The young men became silent.
The man lowered his phone.
May you like
His son had arrived.
And the moment he saw the food scattered across the pavement, his expression changed.
