PART 2 — THE MOMENT THE LAUGHTER STOPPED

The older woman took her position.

The younger competitor still wore a confident expression.

She expected an ordinary response.

Instead, the older woman carefully measured the distance.

She adjusted her stance.

Then she delivered her turn with controlled precision.

The crowd erupted.

"Oh!"

The younger competitor took a step back and stared at her opponent.

The confidence on her face had disappeared.

She had expected an easy exhibition.

She was beginning to realize that the older woman understood timing, balance, and control far better than anyone had expected.

The referee checked both competitors before allowing the match to continue.

The younger woman took a breath.

Then she looked across the platform.

"How do you know how to do that?"

The older woman didn't answer immediately.

She reached down and calmly rubbed a small amount of competition chalk between her hands.

The powder drifted through the arena lights.

The crowd became quiet again.

She looked at her opponent.

Then at the referee.

Then back at the younger woman.

For the first time, the younger competitor looked uncertain.

The older woman wasn't trying to overpower anyone.

She was simply relying on patience and decades of experience.

The announcer suddenly stepped toward the microphone.

He had just received information from the event organizers.

His expression changed.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

The arena fell silent.

"We've just learned something about our older competitor."

The woman remained completely still.

The announcer continued.

"Her name is Margaret Hayes."

The crowd listened.

"And she isn't new to competitive sports."

The younger competitor stared at Margaret.

The announcer paused.

"Nearly fifty years ago, Margaret Hayes competed at the national level in women's martial arts and combat sports."

The arena erupted with surprise.

The younger competitor's expression completely changed.

Margaret simply smiled.

But there was still one final round remaining.

She rubbed her hands together one more time.

Then stepped toward the line.

The referee raised his hand.

The entire arena held its breath.
