PART 3 – The Champion Everyone Never Saw Coming

When the final scores appeared on the giant beach screen, the crowd couldn't believe what they were seeing.

1st Place — Eleanor Brooks, Age 82.

The beach exploded with cheers.

The same spectators who had mocked her now gave her a standing ovation.

Several young surfers walked over to shake her hand.

One admitted,

"I laughed when you walked onto the beach... I'm sorry."

Eleanor smiled kindly.

"Age doesn't stop you from chasing waves."

"It only stops the people who believe it does."

Even the event judges applauded as she accepted the championship trophy.

As cameras surrounded her, a reporter asked,

"What's the secret to surfing at eighty-two?"

Eleanor looked out at the Pacific Ocean and smiled.

"The ocean has never cared how old I am."
