PART 2 — The Woman Nobody Believed
Another Friday night.
The famous American talent show was broadcasting live from a packed theater in Los Angeles.
Thousands filled the auditorium.
Millions watched from home.
The stage had already seen incredible singers, dancers, comedians, and world-class illusionists.
The judges laughed.
The audience cheered.
Everything felt ordinary.
Then a production assistant handed the host the next contestant's card.
She frowned.
"...Please welcome Margaret Collins... eighty-two years old."
A ripple of laughter spread across the theater.
The spotlight moved toward the stage entrance.
An elderly woman slowly appeared.
Her long gray hair looked tangled from years of travel.
Her old brown coat was dusty.
She carried a battered leather suitcase with both hands.
People whispered.
Some assumed she was homeless.
The host forced a polite smile.
"Mrs. Collins... what talent are you bringing us tonight?"
The old woman smiled gently.
"I'd like to perform a little magic."
The audience laughed louder.
One judge leaned toward his microphone.
"Magic?"
He chuckled.
"Ma'am... I think retirement homes have bingo nights."
The crowd burst into laughter.
Another judge shook his head.
"I've seen the world's best illusionists."
"I don't think tonight is going to surprise us."
The host glanced nervously at the producers.
"Mrs. Collins..."
"Perhaps we should save everyone some time."
The old woman never argued.
She simply placed the worn leather suitcase beside her feet.
Then she quietly asked,
"May I have... just one minute?"
The theater fell strangely quiet.
The judges exchanged amused looks.
Finally one of them sighed.
